Cycling to School Agreement

Students who wish to cycle to and from school must complete this agreement. A signature from a parent/carer is also required.

Once submitted, Student Services will keep a copy of the details provided and issue a cycling permit. Students must carry this permit at all times when cycling to or from school and present it when requested.

Purpose

To ensure the safety and responsibility of students who choose to cycle to school, this agreement sets out clear expectations for students, parents/carers, and the school.  By bringing a bike into school we assume that all parties have agreed to these terms.

Repeated failure to follow this agreement may result in the school reviewing permission for the student to bring a bicycle onto school premises.

Student Agreement

I agree to:

  • Ride my bicycle safely and responsibly at all times, both on the way to and from school.
  • Wear a properly fitted helmet every time I ride.
  • Follow the Highway Code and show respect to pedestrians, other cyclists, and road users.
  • Bring a suitable lock and securely lock my bicycle in the designated bike rack.
  • Walk my bicycle within school grounds.

Refrain from using my phone, headphones, or other distractions while cycling.

Parent/Carer Agreement

I agree to:

  • Support and encourage my child to cycle safely and wear a helmet at all times.
  • Ensure the bicycle is roadworthy and appropriately sized for my child.
  • Discuss safe routes and safe cycling behaviour regularly.
  • Understand that the school is not responsible for the loss or damage of bicycles on school property.

School Agreement

We agree to:

  • Provide a designated area for bicycle storage during the school day.
  • Support students with cycling safety awareness (e.g., through assemblies or Bikeability training when available).
  • Contact parents/carers if there are any concerns about student behaviour related to cycling.
